The survival-horror game The Outlast Trials from developer Red Barrels is releasing on March 5 across console and PC, and the launch trailer has now arrived.

The Outlast Trials has been available on Steam Early Access since 2023, but the 1.0 release is coming up this week on PC and the game is also launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that day. The 5-minute launch trailer offers a tantalizing tease at what to expect, summarizing the setting, story, and gameplay elements, and also providing an extended look at the eerie vibe. Be warned that this trailer is full of blood and gore, and also contains imagery of someone hanging from a rope, among other startling and upsetting scenes. Here’s the trailer:

The Outlast Trials is now available on Steam Early Access for $30, but that price will go up to an unspecified price when the game’s 1.0 edition launches on March 5. Everyone who buys before then gets the lower price point, the Grizzly Hazmat outfit, and 50% off Reagent Starter Pack.

The March 5 release marks the first time the game will be available on console. The game costs $40 on console, and those who preorder get the Grizzly Hazmat outfit. A $50 deluxe edition on console includes the game, the preorder bonus, and the Reagent Starter Pack.

The Outlast Trials is the third entry in the Outlast series. A prequel to Outlast and Outlast 2, The Outlast Trials has players suiting up as a Cold War test subject who try to survive a series of grisly trials. The game is playable solo or with others in co-op.

“I think, in general, playing alone will give you the maximum level of fear, like a classic Outlast, but playing with others will be more stressful and filled with moments of panic,” Red Barrels’ co-founder and game designer Philippe Morin told GameSpot.
