Tomb Raider TV Show Will Feature Avatar’s Sigourney Weaver, Role Revealed

Oscar-nominated actor Sigourney Weaver has confirmed the reports that she will appear in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series on Prime Video.

Speaking to Deadline, Weaver said she is “very excited” to join the cast and work with writer-producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge on the project. “The scripts are incredible and very funny, very charming, very witty, as we’ve come to expect from Ms. Waller-Bridge,” she said. “I’ve always been a huge fan of hers. So I am delighted.”

Also in the interview, Weaver revealed that she’s playing a character named Wallace. It appears this may be a new character created for the show.

Weaver is the third actor set to appear on the Tomb Raider show, following Sophie Turner as Lara Croft and British actor Martin Bobb-Semple in an unspecified series regular role.

The Tomb Raider TV show is set to begin filming in January 2026, so it’s possible we will soon learn more about the series and its cast. As for Weaver, she’ll be seen next in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which comes to theaters on December 19.

As for the game series, The Game Awards brought news of two new Tomb Raider games, including a remake of the 1996 game called Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis coming in 2026 and a new game called Tomb Raider: Catalyst in 2027.
