Rovio to open new office in Barcelona

Angry Birds studio Rovio is set to open a new office in Barcelona, Spain, to work on some of its existing titles.

The studio will work in tandem with the firm’s HQ in Finland, and will provide development support for games including Angry Birds Friends and Dream Blast.

In an announcement, Rovio called Barcelona “a bustling hub of mobile gaming talent,” but did not disclose an exact location for the new space.

The team will report to Matthieu Burleraux, senior director of live ops at the firm.

“This is an exciting step in our growth ambitions,” said Rovio head of studios Andy Muesse. “Having a presence in southern Europe substantially expands our hiring potential and makes it easier to tap into a new pool of talent. I am looking forward to having new colleagues joining in Spain!”

Last October, Rovio opened a new office in Toronto. At the time, Rovio Toronto studio head Julie Beaugrand told GamesIndustry.biz that the team was working on a brand new free-to-play project.
