Pokemon Presents August 2023: All The Big Announcements



The second Pokemon Presents livestream of 2023 had plenty of announcements, and over the course of 35 minutes, The Pokemon Company provided updates on several mobile games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Detective Pikachu Returns, and teased a new animated project. The Pokemon Company COO Takato Utsunomiya hosted the presentation, which also shined a light on the upcoming Pokemon World Championships taking place soon in Yokohama, Japan. Here’s all the big news that was announced during the livestream, including upcoming DLC, free Pokemon, and more.

Pokemon: Path to the Peak animation announced

With the Pokemon Trading Card Game being as popular as ever–and a McDonald’s collaboration allegedly on the way–an animated series based on the IRL collectible game was inevitable. Pokemon: Path to the Peak is a short animated series about Ava, a young girl who joins her local Pokemon TCG club. The first episode will premiere at the Pokemon World Championships on August 11 before it gets a global release.

Pokemon Go adds Paldea critters next month

Now in its seventh year, Niantic has big plans for Pokemon Go with several events, the debut of Diancie in the game, and the arrival of Paldean Pokemon like Quaxly, Fuecoco, and Sprigatito.

Two more classic Pokemon games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online

One of the best Game Boy Color experiences of 1998, Pokemon: The Trading Card Game, is being added to the Nintendo Switch Online library from August 8. Subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack can also look forward to Pokemon Stadium 2, another classic from the N64 era.

Pokemon mobile game updates

For fans of the free-to-play Pokemon games, there’s no shortage of new content on the horizon. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s battle-hungry Nemona and Pawmot are headed to Pokemon Masters EX, Mewtwo joins the Pokemon Unite fray, Tatsugiri are coming to Pokemon Cafe Remix, and Pokemon Sleep has a Good Sleep Day full moon event in development.

Detective Pikachu returned in a new trailer

Still on track for an October 6 launch for Nintendo Switch, a new trailer for Detective Pikachu Returns showed the gruff-voiced gumshoe solving mysteries, questioning Pokemon, and getting plenty of help from his allies in Rime City. Also, Detective Pikachu really likes a hot mug of coffee.

Pokemon: Horizons still doesn’t have a release date

There’s still no concrete release date yet for the next Pokemon animated series, which doesn’t star Ash Ketchum, but The Pokemon Company did say that it’ll arrive “soon” after it showed off a new sizzle reel of footage.

Pokemon: Paldea Winds web-series launches in September

Completing the hat trick of Pokemon animated projects is Pokemon: Paldea Winds. This new series of animated shorts is set in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet region, and stars a young girl aiming to attend a Pokemon trainer school. This will be a four-episode web-series on the Pokemon YouTube channel, animated by Wit Studio.

Mew and Mewtwo are coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

You can grab Mew right now in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, while Mewtwo will arrive later in September. You’ll need to prepare for Mewtwo’s arrival, as The Pokemon Company teased a tough Tera Raid battle that will see your team pushed to the limit when facing this powerful Psychic-type clone of Mew. If you happen to have Mew in your party during this Tera Raid, something “special” will happen according to The Pokemon Company.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s first expansion arrives on September 13

The Pokemon Company had plenty of new details to reveal for the two-part expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. New faces, locations, and even an elite quartet await players in The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, and the first part will be available on September 13.
