Nearly two years after its initial release, Hogwarts Legacy has continued its train of post-launch support with the addition of fully supported mods on PC. Prior to this update, mods were a risky venture for players to download and there weren’t even that many to choose from.
Now, there are hundreds, and soon to be thousands, of mods you can download right from the start menu in Hogwarts Legacy. To see how you can add mods to your game, keep reading the guide below.
Install Mods in Hogwarts Legacy
Unlike other major single-player games on PC, such as Starfield or Fallout, you don’t have to go through a third-party site such as Nexus Mods to download add-ons in Hogwarts Legacy. Instead, all you have to do is launch your copy of the game and access the official mod manager the developers have added. The mod manager contains all the available and supported mods in Hogwarts Legacy and allows you to enable or disable the ones you want to add.
Before you can access the mod manager, however, you need to ensure your Steam or Epic Games account is linked to a WB Games account. This is the only way to start using the Hogwarts Legacy mod manager. To link your accounts, follow the steps below:
- Go to the WB Games website and login or create an account using the blue button that pops up
- Once you’re logged in, go to your account page and find the “Connections” tab
- Here, scroll down until you see either Steam or Epic Games. Choose the platform where you’re going to play Hogwarts Legacy
- Click the white “Connect” button to the right of the platform and login with your details
- From there, your accounts should be linked
With your WB Games and platform accounts linked, you can launch Hogwarts Legacy and start using the mod manager. That’s done by simply going to the main menu and selecting the “Play Mods” option.
This brings you to the official in-game mods page, where you can browse every supported mod that’s been created by the developers or the community. Mods cost nothing to download aside from some storage space. The mods page allows you to search through the top mods in every category or specialize your search by using the “Sort By” menu or simply searching for exactly what you’re looking for.
If you want to change your character’s look or outfit, go to the character page near the top of the “Browse” page by selecting the avatar icon. You can also go down to the mounts/brooms page near the bottom of the page to change your mount from a hippogriff to a full-blown dragon.
Once you decide on the mod you want to download, click it and then press the blue “Install” button on the mod’s details page. The page also lets you know when the mod was created, last updated, and how much storage space it requires.
After the mod is finished downloading, it’s added to your “Library,” which can also be found through the mod manager in Hogwarts Legacy. With it installed, you need to enable that mod on a specific save file you have. You can do this from the “Enable Mods” tab in the mod manager. Pick a save file and then launch the save to immediately access your mod.
If you ever want to disable a mod from your Library, go into the menu and choose to uninstall it. However, this will require you to tinker with the save file that the mod was installed on.
Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game has been embroiled in controversy due to transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article onhow Rowling’s comments have impacted the trans community.
