Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities Hardcover Book Is 25% Off

Whether he’s crafting beloved dark fantasy movies like Pan’s Labyrinth or directing sci-fi masterpieces like Pacific Rim, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s work is immediately recognizable for its vivid visual direction. No other films look quite like del Toro’s, and if you’ve ever wanted to take a peek inside his process, then you’ll want to grab the reissue of Guillermo del Toro: Cabinet of Curiosities – My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions. This new edition of the book launched back in October, but is now discounted to $45 (was $60) for a limited time at Amazon. This could make for the perfect holiday gift for the del Toro fan in your life–just make sure you snag a copy while Amazon’s discount is still available.

While this deal is for the new 2025 edition of Cabinet of Curiosities, the original 2013 edition is also still available at Amazon for $64. While the books are essentially identical in content, the older book might be a little worse for wear after spending 12 years in an Amazon warehouse. We’d only recommend grabbing this version if the 2025 edition sells out, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

Del Toro’s latest project is Frankenstein, a Netflix film adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley story about Victor Frankenstein and his monstrous creation. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Oscar Isaac as the infamous doctor and Jacob Elordi as his resurrected creation. While the movie is available to stream on Netflix, you can also dive into the creation of the film with Frankenstein: Written and Directed by Guillermo del Toro, available for $75. There’s also Frankenstein: The Complete Screenplay, which includes the film’s script alongside concept art and set photography. It’s on sale for $21 (was $30) at Amazon.

You can also pick up several of del Toro’s books, ranging from fiction to deep dives into the making of his movies. His work on the Strain trilogy alongside co-author Chuck Hogan was particularly well-received, as it put a modern spin on vampire mythos. The books were eventually adapted into a 46-episode TV series that ran from 2014-2017. Check the list below for a selection of more books written by del Toro.

Of course, no story talking about del Toro’s influences on his movies would be complete without actually mentioning them. The entire filmography of the acclaimed director has been brought to Blu-ray over the years, and you can even pick up Criterion Collection versions of several of his films. These are designed to be the definitive editions of his films, as each restoration has been supervised directly by him. The newest release in this line, Nightmare Alley, is a neo-noir mystery starring Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, and Rooney Mara comes with a ton of extra content, including a new 159-minute black-and-white extended director’s cut that del Toro helped develop. We’ve rounded up several more del Toro films available on Blu-ray below.
