Although the 25th anniversary of Devil May Cry won’t happen until next year, the party is starting early next month–and getting crazy–with the release of the new anime series. Now, a new trailer for the series demonstrates the over-the-top demonic threats that Dante is going to face when trying to save the world. Fighting armies of demons is one thing, but Dante’s enemies are bringing out some military-grade firepower to take him out.
Between Papa Roach’s Last Resort in this trailer and Limp Bizkit’s Rollin’ in the show’s wild opening credits sequence, Devil May Cry is really doubling down on music from the turn of the 21st century. Dante himself may be humanity’s last resort, as White Rabbit (Hoon Lee) leads an invasion from the demonic realm with enough firepower to take down Earth’s defenses. However, taking down Dante may prove to be trickier.
Power Rangers veteran Johnny Yong Bosch is voicing Dante in the series, and he previously voiced Nero in the Devil May Cry video games. While Nero doesn’t appear to be in the show yet, Lady (Scout Taylor-Compton) will be featured as a reluctant ally to Dante, even if she doesn’t quite know what to make of him. Meanwhile, Dante’s brother, Vergil, makes a dramatic appearance at the end of the trailer.
Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar is performing the same role for this series, which was animated by Studio Mir–the studio behind X-Men ’97, Harley Quinn, and My Adventures with Superman. The synthwave duo known as Power Glove will provide the music for the show.
Netflix will premiere all eight episodes of Devil May Cry Season 1 on April 3.
