Scavengers to shut down in December

Free-to-play multiplayer shooter Scavengers will be shut down at the end of the year.

In a post on the title’s website, Improbable said it will close Scavengers’ servers on December 16, 2022, as it’s seen a “decline in the playerbase.”

“Whilst we explored many options to reinvigorate server population while the game is in early access, it became clear that it was unsustainable to continue development and live service,” the message read. “We’re all proud of what we accomplished, and are grateful to every player who took the time to play, even if it was just for a short while.”

Scavengers released in early access in May 2021. It was initially developed by Midwinter Entertainment, a studio from former Halo devs that was acquired by Improbable in September 2019.

Earlier this year, Improbable announced that it was selling Midwinter to Behaviour Interactive for an undisclosed sum, to focus on the metaverse instead. At the time, the console versions of Scavengers were cancelled but the PC edition was to be maintained by a small team within Improbable.
