A Nintendo Direct is coming this week, and fans can look forward to “around 25 minutes” of reveals on February 21 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET. This Nintendo Direct will be focused on third-party games arriving in the first half of 2024 and will be broadcast on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.
There has been a long gap between Directs, as the last broadcast was held in September 2023 and saw the reveal of several remakes and remasters like Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. Princess Peach: Showtime was also revealed alongside a new tactical-RPG from Vanillaware, Unicorn Overlord.
Pocket monster fans can also tune in next week for a Pokemon Presents livestream, as The Pokemon Company is teasing “exciting” news for the franchise.
Nintendo has regularly held a Direct in February, and this livestream follows hot on the heels of PlayStation and Xbox broadcasts. Microsoft also recently revealed that several of its first-party games will be headed to other platforms, and it has been claimed that that Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded will be headed to Nintendo and PlayStation consoles in the future. According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grub, Nintendo may have delayed its Direct presentation due to Microsoft’s event.
Meanwhile, business is booming for Nintendo. The Switch has reached 139.96 million units sold and at its current trajectory it could surpass the PS2 as the best-selling video game console of all time in 2025. Meanwhile, the rumored Switch successor might not arrive in 2024 as new reports claim that Nintendo is targeting a Q1 2025 launch instead.
